The result of theoretical and experimental study on the critical speeds of an unoverhg shaft having a symmetrical disc was published by the author in No. 3 of this series of Reports. The present investigation, supplimenting to a paper in No. 4,deals with the shaft having an asymmetrical rotating disc. The principal results are as follows. 1. While the shaft with a symetrical disc makes circular vibrations, the shaft with an asymmetrical disc makes elliptic vibrations, refering to the rotating co-ordinates which rotates with the same speed as the shaft. 2. While the former system has only one major critical speed, the latter has two major critical speeds, the range between them being the unstable zone. 3. Generally, the backward precession starts from a state at no rotation with a higher natural frequency, diminishing with the increase of the rotating speed. On the other hand the forward precession starts from a statinary state with a lower frequency, increasing with the speed.
