A new method is tried for the changing of the inclination of the fringe forming plane in moire topography. The method of revolving a grating hitherto used is examined from the practical viewpoint and the defects attended by the revolution method are proved to be compensated by introducing the newly developed method of linearly moving the grating. The linear movement of the grating brings the change of pitches of the grating projected on the object and by adjusting the location of the grating, following merits are obtained. 1) The inclination of the moire plane is easily controlled and the plane varies only in one direction. 2) Each moire plane formed on the object is almost flat and parallel in the pracitical us age. 3) Fringes are drawn from the various points of observation and the object can be distinguished easily to be convex or concave.
