The impact machining forces on the ultrasonic machining are obtained in this paper. The forces are determined in its magnitude and phase-lag to driving current by direct force measurement method. The author already reported that the machining force in ultrasonic machining occurs from the impact motion of tool system, and so these forces are obtained by the analytical method on which the tool system and work are treated as the one dynamical oscillation system. In this paper, it is revealed that the characteristics of machining forces in various conditions pretty well coinside with the values of the forces got by above mentioned dynamical analysis in its magnitude and phase-lag to driving current. By this calculation and experimental data, the author concludes that the mechanism of ultrasonic machining is the removing of material by the crashing action occuring from the impact force between tool and work.
