This study investigates the use of structural markers in scientific presentations. It also considers how the findings may assist novice members of the discourse community to participate in their community. It was found that a variety of structural markers could be isolated from the data and that they corresponded with discourse markers of the type commonly associated with the genre. The findings have implications for the production of teaching materials and instruction of students where the goal is the ability to deliver and also comprehend scientific presentations.
