In his early years, D.H. Lawrence mainly worked as a teacher except for a short unhappy experience as a clerk in a company. His early work experience is described from an economical point of view. His father Arthur Lawrence's working environment is also reviewed. His early work experience coincided with the growing comfort among the working class in the United Kingdom because the economic situation at the turn of the century was, especially for the British working class, at its best with low prices and growing wages. It is suggested that Lawrence's break from the traditional values from the late Victorian Era might be partly ascribable to the gaining consciousness of the British working-class.
