Nichiren, a great buddhist monk of the Kamakura period and the founder of the buddhist sect Nichiren-shu, was banished by the Kamakura shogunate to the island Sado on a charge of public agitation. Before he started for the island, he wrote a letter to his beloved disciple Nichiro who had been put in a cave prison. This letter is known as "Tsuchiro Gosho"(Letter of the Cave Prison). Today, the letter is known only through the copies. The original is said to be missing. Since some years ago, Mr, Yasuji Hasegawa, emeritus professor of Tokai University, has been making known his possessing of the original letter. I helped him to spread this news. But none of the scholars dared to approve the genuineness of this letter so far. I think it can be genuine, so I submit the materials, with Mr.Hasegawa's permission, to the investigation of the wider range of the scholarly world. The materials are the photos of the letter and Mr, Hasegawa's paper arguing for his identifying this letter with the original.
