Pulsed L^* burner method is a simple and convenient one for measuring the combustion response function of solid propellants in the low frequency range below 200Hz. The pulsed L^* burner technique proposed by the authors utilizes the transient pressure history induced by passing a ball quickly through the nozzle. The combustion response function can be obtained by a suitable data processing of this transient pressure history. Whether this method is effective or not depends on both the quality of transient pressure data and data processing technique. The purpose of this study is to consider these points by comparing the results of numerical simulations of pulsed L^* burner tests with those of experiments. From the simulations, it is confirmed that non-linear burning effect including temporary extinction by a rapid pressure decrease can hardly appear under the present experimental conditions, and therefore linear analysis can be used effectively. Several techniques are investigated concering how to apply curve fitting method to a measured transient pressure curve, and it is also confirmed that the difference among them are rather small. Furthermore the validity of Pulsed L^* burner test at higher mean pressure condition is also discussed through the consideration on desirable shape of a transient pressure curve from the view point of determination of combustion response function.
