The Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) which composed by a polarity changer, an integrator and a hysteresis switch is serviceable for function generators having two signal outputs as triangular wave and square wave in sametime, testing signal sources and control signal sources. The transition time of a hysteresis switch and a polarity changer of the VCO causes the increase in the amplitude of the triangular wave obtained from an integrator, which result in the error in the 1inearity of the output frequency in high frequency region. In this paper, a theoretical analysis on the output frequency of the VCO considering the transition time of a hysteresis switch and a polarity changer, and a principle of compensation method of this transition time to eliminate the linearity error and experimental results are included. A VCO with compensator by using a polarity changer, an integrator, an invertor with a differentiating capacitor as for a compensator, and a hysteresis switch is composed. From the experiments, the following results are confirmed. 1. The linearity error is under +0.5 percent over 4 decades of frequency when the input voltage is ranging from 0.5 [mV] to 10 [V]. 2. The bad effect on the 1inearity error of this VCO due to the transition time 3.78 [μs] of a hysteresis switch and a polarity changer is perfectly eliminated. 3. The temperature drift constant of this VCO is -9.2 [Hz/℃] or -0.092 [%/℃], when full scale frequency is 10 [kHz], and the frequency sensitivity due to the change of the supply voltage is -37 [Hz/V] or -0.37 [%/V].
