In Nakamuracity, Sukumo city and its neighborhood, the "wakamono -yado"-a place of assembly for the youth dating from the Edo-Era- named "tomari-ya" are now kept as cultural assets of architecture. On the grounds of these " Tomari-ya ", there are round chikara-ishi called "gorin-ishi" and rectangular ones. The game of chikara-ishi has been played enthusiastically by those young people who assembled there from the close of the Edo-Era to the Meiji- Era. The characteristics showing the time and society concerning the game of chikara-ishi are that it had close relation to the amusements of the youth which were connected with the condition of the agricultural villages and its chief customs througout the year.
