• Until the publication in 1984 of a fuller version of Mr Noon, it was a fixed reputatian that D.H.Lawrence was a great novelist who constantly pursued the truth or life during his career as a writer.In fact, Lawrence described himselfes a "religious, earnest, suffering man" as early as in 1914. Butthis unfinished novel Mr Noon is a richly comic novel and helps to modify that reputation. We haveto realize another aspect of Lawrence. In this essay l would like to demonstrate aiat Lawrence alsocould have become a great comic novelist, considering Mr Noon and a novellete "The Captain'sDoll" which is full of comic scenes.
