Nearly all the absorption spectra have isosbestic points (λ_<iso>), when total concentration of two substances in a solution is constant and only the ratios of concentration change. Difference absorption maximum (λ_d) of two solution is easily obtained by the difference spectrum, which is automatically obtained by subtraction of the absorbance of a solution of a substance from that of the other substance of same molar concentration, using a recording spectrophotometer. And we have found the equations that a mixture of two substances is easily analyzed by measuring the absorbances of the isosbestic point (E_<iso>) and the difference absorption maximum (E_d), if the molar absorptivities of the isosbestic point (ε_<iso>) and the difference absorption maxima (ε(A′)dε(B′)) of the two substances are known. Mixtures of two sorts of dichlorophenols and trichlorophenols are analyzed by this method and good results are generally obtained.
