The details of the washing efficiency of electric washing machines for home use were studied with the standard artificially tainted cloth. The present experiment performed by the author of this paper was done chiefly with the intention to investigate thoroughly the special character of the pulsator type washing machine, a modification of a jet type machine, and the following result was obtained. As to the relation of machine types with washing efficiency, it was revealed that the pulsator type machine had excellent washing efficiency. As to the relation of Yokuhi (the weight ratio of the substance to be washed to the water capacity in the machine tub) with the washing efficiency, the pulsator type machine revealed harder to be influenced by the Yokuhi compared with the agitation type machine. As to the relation of time lengths with the washing efficiency, it was found that washing for 15 minutes was desirable when the pulsator type machine was used, while 30 minutes when the agitation type machine was used. As to the relation of Yokuhi with unbalanced washing efficiency within the machine tub, both the pulsator type and agitation type machines revealed more or less large unbalanced washing efficiency at the Yokuhi of 1 : 10,while at the ratio greater than 1 : 10,nearly uniform washing efficiency was achieved.
