The start phase in competitive swimming is required defferent physical activities from the stroke movement, and these abilities directly affect the issue of win or lose. However, on the training program, it is the fact not to spare the time for improvement of start technique. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the activities and sences of the start phase, and whether the start and handing over action of relay is useful for enhancement of performance. The subjects were 10 male and 3 female high school-trained students, and the records for each subjects adopted the results of official meets. As a result, reduction of records had significantly different between sensations, and the subjicts who participated for this study had significantly different from other men's grades on handing over action. Furthermore, there were no remarkable record difference by the start styles not many prior studies. It is conformed that this result causes by a difference of body action and timing. In conclusion, it is suggest that the start phase is as important factor as the other phases in order to improve the performance.
