• This paper reports the relation between damage features of structures and characteristics of seismic waves from the Great Hanshin Earthquakes (Jan.17.1995).First, outline of damages are shown, and reason why the heavy seismic damages have centered at the narrow specific area is. investigated in relation to the local site topography. Next, the characteristics of the seismic waves observed in Kobe are described in comparison with Kushirooki Earthquake (1993). By respose spectorum analysis, it was suggested that the above mentioned characteristics caused the destructive damages of structures.
