Successive operation of intense pulsed ion beams was studied experimentally. When aluminum, copper, acrylic resin or Teflon was used as an anode material, a diode impedance and an ion beam current were changed with every shot of operation. In case of a copper anode, the ion current at 10 shot was reduced to one half or one third than that at the first shot. Using Pyrex glass on the surface of which vacuum oil was coated as the ion source, the diode impedance and the ion current remained constant for -30 shots. Reduction of the ion beam current on successive operation was dependent on the specific heat and the melting point of the anode materials.
