Virginia Woolf (1882-1941), an English feminine writer in modernism, wrote Orlando(1928), one of her most fantastic experimental novels. Several of her works have beenscreened recently: Orlando, Mrs. Dalloway, and The Hours by Michel Cunningham. Inthis paper I will focus on Orlando and revisit the original text and analyze it incomparison with the screenplay by Sally Potter. Both works carry the messages oftheir own across the border, culture, gender, time and space to the contemporaryreaders and audience. Woolf Across Cultures Symposium which was held in June 2003in Moscow took up the theme of the Woolf's text and the film for discussion in one ofthe sessions. I discuss here how Orlando both in the text and the screenplay goesacross the geographical, chronological cultural and gender borders, representing thegenre of literature as a metafiction. Additionally I attach here my original paper,JAPANESE TRANSLATIONS OF VIRGINIA WOOLF'S WORKS which wascontributed to a website edition of Woolf's Across Culture worked out by Prof. NatalyaReinhold (International Virginia Woolf Society) in association with the Symposiumwhere it is partly introduced: http://www.woolfsymposium.rsuh.ru
