Velocity can be easily measured by using Doppler-shifted frequency with the self-mixing effect of a laser diode (LD). Application of the LD self-mixing has several advantages, such as the high sensitivity and simple optical system. However, for the conventional LD self-mixing velocimeters, the information of the incidence angle between the laser beam and the moving target is indispensable to calculate the velocity from the Doppler-shifted frequency. We have proposed a new two-beam arrangement for the LD self-mixing Doppler velocimeter. It is confirmed that the velocity can be obtained only by the information of the two-beam offset angle which is given precisely.
