In his significant work, "Figurative expressions : Theory and Classification", Dr. Nakamura classified figures of speech into three types : copulative figure (with some copula), combined figure (without copula), contextual figure (comprehensible only in a broad context) by their formal character. Similar distinction : ming-yu (=simile), an-yu (=present metapher), jie-yu (=absent metapher) in the Chinese rhetoric, also. Their occidental equivalents in parentheses. That shows how fundamental this kind of division is. By the way, he didn't adopt the rhetorical division as a subdivision. Now, we will reorganize the relation between Nakamura's triad and rhetorical figures through confirming in our own right under what category they belong.
