This article focuses on the contribution of Takushoku University graduates to the working of local government units in Manchukuo. Drawing on a wide array of published and unpublished sources, it first of all examines what prompted Takushoku University graduates to go to Manchuria and traces the actions of these graduates during the stay in Manchukuo. The young men can be divided into two groups : those who went to Manchuria prior to the establishment of Manchukuo and those who went there subsequently. Members of the former group participated in the activities of the Daiyuhokai; the second group consisted of some 4000 graduates of the Daido gakuin (Great Equality Academy), though it is not clear how many Takushoku University graduates were included in that number. The article also takes a close look at Tokyo Imperial University-educated Kasagi Yoshiaki, leader of the Daiyuhokai, who is also known as a member of the Yuzonsha and Gyochisha.
