In this paper the writer has considered how a Japanese modern ego came into being in Soseki's novel Kokoro which was very popular as a famous story in the Asahi. And the writer has insisted that Sensei's ego came into existence out of the hidden paradigm composed by two contrary cultural contexts. The one was the traditional context of meanings, values and virtues, of which people were well aware. The other was the newer cultural context of social acts, especially commercial acts and acts of modern egos, of which people were not aware at all. So they were conscious of their acts by their traditional cultural contexts. This was self-deception of modern Japanese ego. In this way people set themselves up into the hidden paradigm of double meanings and contrarieties. Sensei in Kokoro became aware of this hidden cultural paradigm, and tried to be free from this paradigm.
