Multi-channel analog to digital conversion systems are required for discretization of multiple output variables in case of the design of multivariable digital control systems. In such control system, it is difficult to detect all variables at the same time instant or within the same sampling interval. In addition, the completion of the sensing process and information processing action within the required sampling interval for control is generally impossible for a control system composed of multiple sensors due to inherent differences in characteristics existing in individual sensors. In this type of systems, the sampling interval is mainly determined base on the sensor which necessitates a longer duration among others for the sensing process. This causes serious effects in control system designs. In this paper, we consider a controlled plant in which all variables are not accessible at the same time instant or the same time interval. Specifically, we discuss the design method of multirate state observer that enables us to detect the output variables of the controlled plant with a concept of the multirate sampling, and we present a design method of state feedback system which utilizes this multirate state observer. Moreover, we consider the stability problem of an inverted pendulum in which the sampling rate of the output variables are widely different to each other. Hence, in this paper, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method of multirate state observer for the stabilization of the control system considered.
