An efficient technique for non-destructive testing to determine the strengths of concrete is described in this study. In order to investigate the estimation capacity of this method, three mix proportions with different water-cement ratios are used to represent the different strengths of mortars. Aluminum rod is placed on the surface of mortar specimen to measure the dynamic response of the specimen. Stress ware produces in aluminum rod by an impact at the top of the rod. Then, the amplitude of incident wave propagate through aluminum rod and reflected wave from the boudary between aluminum rod and mortar specimen are measured by the sensor placed on the surface of aluminum rod. It is found that the correlation between mechanical impedance and mortar strength obtained from this test is very definite. These results show that new method can be an effective technique to estimate the concrete strength and the deterioration degree of concrete.
