This paper proposes a new method of a color image coding using the Multi-Resolution Analysis (MRA) defined by the wavelet transform. In this method correlation between subbands of different resolution levels is used to obtain a low bit-rate image coding. This method consists of processes of the MRA, thresholding and the quantization of coefficients of subbands. These processes are able to be executed with a very high speed. All obtained coefficients are coded by the LZW coding method. Efficiency of the proposed method is compared with the JPEG coding method.
