• Let R be a commutative ring wiht identity. The main result of the paper is the following: THEOREM, Let f:Z→X be a UVn-1 -mapping from a compactum Z of demension[?]n onto a compactum X. lf Hn(f-1(x):R)=0 for all x∈X, than a-dimRX[?]n. As its compactum, we have a characterization of copmacta X of a-dimRX[?]. THEOREM. A compactum X admits a UVn-1 -mapping f:Z→X from a compactum Z of demension n[?]n onto X such that Hn(f-1(x);R)=0 for all x∈X if and only if adimRX[?]n.
