A stability analysis based on MHD approximation was done on the effect of quadrupole field to suppress the n=2 rotational instability occurring in theta pinch plasmas. The obtained stability condition is B_S > |Ω|r_S√<μ_0ρ_0>/2,where B_S is the strength of the quadrupole field at r=r_S without plasma production, and Ω, r_S and ρ_0 are the angular velocity of rotation, radius and mass density of the plasma column, respectively. Applying the present analysis to the results of the most recent experiment on the suppression of the instability, the theoretical threshold of B_S becomes as 0.05T, while the experimental one is 0.06T.
