Exact calculation of dispersion relation of cold plasma shows different behaviors from usual approximate theory naglecting electron inertia in the low density limit. The limiting value of Ω for optimum coupling is different from 1. This was acertained experimentally in the QP machine. Experimental observations of optimum coupling of ion cyclotron wave in the two-ion plasma of the QP machine are presented as functions of plasma density. Plasma was produced by PIG discharge and the density was from 10^<10> to 2×10^<12>/cm^3. The wave was generated by a stix-type coil (coil wavelength was 50cm), which was fed by a 4.4 MH_z, 20kW oscillator. Experimental data agrees qualitatively with the dispersion relation of a homogeneous cold plasma column with sharp boundary. The dependence of optimum loading on the diameter of plasma column disagrees, however, with the theoretical prediction.
