Observation of large amplitude ion acoustic shocks with a high Mach number M>1.6 in a collisionless plasma characterized by T_e/T_i≃10 is described. Although they have large fluctuations behind the front, these shocks are close to the laminar rather than the turbulent ones, and they behave nonstationarily during propagation. Discussions about the nature and behavior of the shock are also described.
