Theoretical equations of normal pulse, cyclic, and ac voltammetric currents of the electron transfer reaction at a liquid|liquid or organic solvent (O)|water (W) interface were derived under certain assumptions that are considered to be acceptable in most experimental systems employed for the study. Based on the theory, the mechanisms of the electron transfer reactions between bis(phthalocyaninato)lutetium ([Lu(pc)2]), ferrocene ([Fe(C5H5)2]), or dibutylferrocene ([Fe(C5H4Bu)2]) in O and hexacyanoferrate redox couple ([Fe(CN)6]3-/4-) in W were determined experimentally. The theory and the experimental results are summarized in this review. Keywords : Electron transfer; Liquid|liquid interfaces; Reaction mechanism; Polarography
