Photoluminescence Excitation and Photoacoustic Spectra for Ceramic Al2-xCrxO3 ( 0.002 $\Leq$ x $\Leq 0.05$)

Photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectroscopy is applied together with photoacoustic (PA) spectroscopy to study the radiative processes of ceramic Al2- xCr xO3 (0.002≦ x≦0.05). The maxima which correspond to the U-band and Y-band can be observed in both PLE and PA spectra. The intensity ratio for the PLE spectra at the Y-band versus the U-band, F(Y-band)/F(U-band), increases and that for the PA spectra, S(Y-band)/S(U-band), decreases with increasing mole fraction x, indicating an increase of nonradiative characteristics of the U-band with increasing mole fraction x.
